The Runcible Spoon

Spent the latter part of last week in Bloomington to help out Alexander’s move into his new apartment. On Saturday morning, Alex had recommended “The Runcible Spoon” for the breakfast. After a visit, I know why “The Runcible Spoon” is considered as one of the Bloomington’s best. Here is a little information on the history of the Spoon, and the secret to that great coffee.

지난주 후반은 새로운 아파트로 이사하는 알렉산더에게 도움도 줄겸해서 블루밍턴에서 보냈읍니다. 토요일 아침은 알렉스가 추천한 "Runcible 숟가락"에서 해결한후 왜 "Runcible 숟가락"이 블루밍턴의 최고의 카페로 일컬어 지는지 알게 돼었읍니다.

The name, The Runcible Spoon, comes from children's story about love, adventure, nature, and whimsy. Elements from the story and the main characters, the owl and the pussycat, are evident throughout the restaurant's decor. “The Runcible Spoon” was opened in 1976 at its present location as the only retail coffee roaster in the Midwest. At that time, the restaurant had a cafe (still roasting coffee), a dessert bakery, a sidewalk cafe designed by an expert in Japanese garden design, and added another floor to the house with a 300-gallon aquarium.

Runcible 숟가락이란 이름은 아이들의 사랑, 모험, 성격, 및 변덕에 관한 이야기 에서 따왔다 합니다. 이이야기의 주인공인 올빼미 및 고양이의 모습은 이식당의 벽을 덮고 있는 데코를 통하여 접할수 있읍니다. 이 식당은1976년 현재의 위치에서 Midwest에서는 유일했던 커피 로스터로 오픈 했읍니다. 그때에는 카페, 디저트 빵집및 일본 정원 디자인 전문가가 디자인한 도변 카페가 있었고, 300 갤런 수족관을 위하여 증축을 하였다 합니다.

The first two signs hanging in front of the restaurant were stolen within the first two years of business! An early sign, pictured to the right is a sign frm 1982. The owner wised up, and today a sturdy sign stands, in place for nearly twenty years.

초창기기 2년동안 식당건물 앞에 걸어논2개의 간판은 모두 도난 당하였다합니다. 위의 간판은 1982년도 것이며, 그후 튼튼하게 제작된 간판은 20년이 지난 지금도 건장 하게 걸려 있다합니다.

The food and coffee was excellent, but the real surprise was the bathroom. The Runcible Spoon's bathroom made the list of top ten bathrooms in a recent edition of the Travel Channel favorite, "World's Best". Here is a sneak peak of the fun, fish-filled feature of the bathroom.
